IT'S not every day a member of McFly sings happy birthday while he was wearing his "birthday suit"!
The pop group has sold more than ten million records worldwide and will star at Rasen Rocks 2013, at Market Rasen Racecourse, this summer.
And I certainly didn't expect to be serenaded when Dougie Poynter, who won the eleventh series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, rang the newsroom for a chat. It just happened to be my birthday, and Dougie obliged by celebrating with me!
"I can't wait to perform at Market Rasen and I can't remember if I've been to Lincolnshire before because I have travelled so far in the past ten years," said the 25-year-old. "We are currently working on our pre-production number six album in Texas – it is very us, with traditional sounding McFly songs."
Rasen Rocks 2013 is on twice – on Saturday, August 17 with popular DJ and TV presenter Scott Mills and then with McFly on Saturday, August 31, who will be performing alongside the newest boyband on the block, The Vamps.
Dougie explained: "We have toured with The Vamps this year and they are a good bunch of lads. They are under the same management as us, too, so we know them quite well.
"It will be good fun to have them at the same show as us."
When asked what songs McFly will be singing, Dougie replied it will be "a surprise".
"We don't actually know what we will be singing – it depends on what the crowd's like and what they want," he said. "We have a basic set list with some of our classics, but on the night we sing what our fans want."
This year, the band will be celebrating their ten-year anniversary in the music industry. To mark it they will be putting on concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in September – and seats have already sold out. "I have no idea why we are so successful and have been for the past ten years – I ask myself this all the time," said Dougie.
"I can't wait to play at the Royal Albert Hall. It's a great venue and it has sold out, which is amazing! When I found out I was shocked, happy and surprised, all at the same time.
Every band has their ups and downs, and the whole experience has been a bit of a rollercoaster."
When I told Dougie it was my birthday, he sang me a version of that famous tune... only telling me afterwards that he was naked!
"The best memories I have as a band is when it involves all three of us in the buff together," he laughed. "We are pretty good as a team and we don't have any arguments really."
Tickets for both shows, on August 17 and August 31, will be available from www.marketrasenraces.co.uk, on 0844 579 3009 or at the racecourse.
McFly Have Finished Recording Their 6th Album In Texas
Source: Onepopz
It has been ages since we had a new album from McFly.
Last year we were treated to ‘Memory Lane: The Best Of McFly’ which contained their greatest hits as well are rare recordings, b-sides and demos. It also included their most recent single ‘Love Is Easy’.
Earlier this year they did a tour based on the album, while that was going on, the boys were hard at work writing new material for their 6th album.
They have now spent the past few weeks out in El Paso in Texas to record the new tracks and returned to the UK earlier today.
Before they left Danny tweeted: “Goooooodbyyyeeee Texas!”, while Dougie was his usual weird self and said: “That’ll do pigs, that’ll do @jasonperryrock @tommcfly @mcflyharry @Dannymcfly”
Tom added this morning: “Good morning! All the main recording on McFly album 6 is DONE and sounding like the best album we’ve ever made!
“Had the most awesome recording experience out in El Paso with @jasonperryrock @_adam_noble @Dannymcfly @dougiemcfly @mcflyharry cheers lads!”
And the main band account said: “Have you heard the news? McFly are back in the UK after recording #McFlyAlbum6 in Texas.”
“Great work @mcflyharry @Dannymcfly @dougiemcfly @tommcfly.. It’s been a pleasure. X”, tweeted the producer Jason.
It sounds like the Galaxy Defenders are in for a massive treat when this album is eventually released!
